New Delhi: About 5,000 dabbawalas in Mumbai will get houses for themselves under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
The Maharashtra government plans to give them houses in Thane and Kalyan.
The Chairman of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority’s Mumbai Repair and Reconstruction Board Vinod Ghosalkar has said appropriate land would be identified in Thane and Kalyan and the houses would be constructed. The houses for the world-famous dabbawalas would be 300 square feet each.
Houses to the dabbawalas were promised by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar after they had demanded houses for themselves. Pawar had directed the concerned departments to give houses to the dabbawalas under the PMAY scheme.
