New Delhi: The average sizes of all residential units have gradually been going down across all categories in the big cities of the country. Affordable homes too have shrunk over the years in all the big cities. Bengaluru has witnessed the highest reduction in sizes of affordable houses since 2014. The average for an affordable house was 1,070 sq ft in 2014 which has now come down to 710 sq ft in 2019, according to ANAROCK property consultants.
Mumbai has seen a reduction of a massive 33 percent in the last five years. The average here was 643 sq ft in 214 which has now come down to just 425 sq ft.
Chennai has witnessed a reduction of 30 percent in average sizes of affordable units. The average size here was 900 sq ft in 2014 and it now stands at 630 sq ft.
Pune has witnessed lowest cut in sizes. The average here currently is 565 sq ft. Hyderabad has the biggest affordable homes in the country. The current average here is 810 sq ft, about 26 percent lower than 2014 levels.
Kolkata has an average of 705 sq ft, around 24 percent lower than 2014 levels.
Delhi NCR witnessed affordable housing sizes go down to just 650 sq ft from 890 sq ft in 2014.
