FM Announces 100 New Airports, Monetization OF 12 Highway Bundles, Listing Of One Port & 5 New Smart Cities

New Delhi: Government will focus on ‘Accelerated Development of Highways’ and start Chennai-Bengaluru expressway soon. It also intends to start 100 new airports by 2014. The government will also help develop five new smart cities in collaborator with sates. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today said that the government will spend 1.74 lakh crore for transport infrastructure. 

While presenting the Union Budget, she also said “12 highway bundles of 6,000 highways will be monetised to help National Highways Authority Of India (NHAI) to raise resources”. The Minister also said that at least one major port will be corporatized and listed on the stock exchanges.   

As part of its Accelerated Development of Highways project, at latest 2,000 kilometers of strategic highways and 2,500 kliometres of access controlled highways will, be constructed in the country.
