New Delhi: The government has approved up-gradation projects of 780 kilometers of roads worth Rs 7,662 crore. The work will be done under Green National Highways Corridor Project (GNHCP) in Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the various projects which includes a loan of Rs 3,500 crore (USD 500 million) from World Bank. The up-gradation of thee road stretches will have to be completed in 2-3 years.
The works include upgradation of the two-lane and four-lane highways. It also includes the maintenance of these stretches for five years (in the case of flexible pavement) and 10 years (in the case of rigid pavement) after completion of construction.
The selected stretches pass through agricultural belts, industrial areas, religious places, tourist places and even those areas which are backward in terms of growth and income.
