New Delhi: The government has decided to construct Aligarh-Harduaganj flyover in Uttar Pradesh, the project cost of which will be Rs 1,285 crore.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its approval today for the construction of the flyover which will have a total length of 22 kilometers.
Ministry of railways will construct the flyer and the project will be completed by 2024-25, the government said in statement.
The construction has been approved because at Aligarh junction, a branch line Bareilly-Aligarh terminates. The trains coming from Howrah and going towards Harduaganj/Bareilly intersect Howrah-New Delhi main route, which is the busiest route of the Indian Railways.
There is very heavy traffic here and there is no path available for surface crossing of loaded goods trains coming from Howrah and going towards Harduaganj/Bareilly. As a result, there is considerable detention of trains at Aligarh junction.
This location has gradually become a huge bottleneck and is causing major delays and impacting the wagon turn-around time. Flyover at Aligarh junction going over the current Delhi-Howrah main line is an operational necessity and is essentially required to remove the bottleneck to traffic movement.
