New Delhi: The government today said it will provide affordable rental homes in metros and other cities to migrant labourers and workers under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
While continuing with her announcements of a host of measures to provide relief amid the corona virus led problems, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that central government will convert the government funded homes in various cities into affordable rental homes complexes through PPP model.
The central government will provide various incentives to industries, factories and institutions to come up with affordable home complexes on land parcels owned by them.
Various state and central government bodies and agencies will also be told to develop affordable home complexes for the migrants and urban poor.
The Minister has been trying to provide relief through several fiscal and non-fiscal measures to boost economic activity which has taken a heavy toll amid the lockdown. She had yesterday provided huge relief to the real estate sector, besides announcing measures for several other sectors.
Sitharaman also gave a Rs 70,000 crore gift to the real estate sector today by extending the CLSS scheme till 31 March 2021 for affordable homes for the middle-class. Those with Rs 6-8 lakh annual income will, be able to take advantage of the extension.
