New Delhi: Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Andhra Pradesh (AP) have taken a lead over other states in the number of houses constructed under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna-Urban (PMAY-U). A total of 11.22 lakh houses have been constructed in these three states by the end of 2019. This is in sharp contrast to just 3.62 lakh houses completed by the end of 2018.
With around 32 lakh houses having been completed in all the states put together, these three states account for about 35 percent of the overall share, according to a report by ANAROCK property consultants.
By the end of 2018, only 12.58 lakh houses were constructed in all the states. This means that about 19.42 lakh houses have been completed in 2019.
UP had about 4.30 lakh houses built by the end of 2019. The figure at the end of 2018 was just 68,660 houses. By the end of 2019, about 9.33 lakh houses have been occupied in UP, Gujarat and AP.
“Timely construction remains a challenge, but the introduction of new and effective technologies such as prefabricated construction can help achieve this target within the stipulated deadline,” said Anuj Puri, Chairman – ANAROCK Property Consultants.
