New Delhi: The real estate industry in the country has garnered over USD 14 billion foreign private equity (PE) investment in the last five years. Of this, about 63 percent or USD 8.8 billion has gone into commercial real estate, according to a report by ANAROCK Property Consultants.
The residential real estate segment, on the other hand, got only about USD 1.5 billion PE investment. The retail segment got about USD 1.7 billon PE investment in the period.
Domestic PE funds have been slower in comparison. They has invested only USD 2.4 billion in Indian realty and about 71 percent went of that has gone into residential sector.
Five foreign investors – GIC, Xander, Blackstone, Brookfield and Ascendas have emerged as top investors in India. They accounted for about 75 percent of the total invesmtne by foreign PE entities in India. They even invested in smaller cities like Ahmedabad, Indore and Amritsar.
Top domestic PE Funds emerged to be HDFC Venture, Motilal Oswal, Kotak Realty, ASK Group and Aditya Birla PE. These funds poured about 54 percent of USD 1.3 billion in the Indian realty.
