The EPC mandate covers a 220 kV underground cable circuit between Howrah and Botanical Garden, along with a distribution station and 33 kV cabling, with completion scheduled by March 2027.
According to the exchange filing, Laser Power & Infra Limited has received a Rs.44 crore Letter of Intent from CESC Limited for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) works covering a distribution station and underground cabling projects in CESC’s operational areas.
The order marks Laser Power & Infra’s entry into the 220 kV underground transmission cable segment, with the project scheduled for completion by March 2027. The scope includes turnkey works for the Kabitirtha Distribution Station, along with 33 kV and 220 kV underground cabling.
A key component of the contract is a 220 kV underground cable circuit connecting WBSETCL’s Howrah Substation with CESC’s Botanical Garden Substation.
The project gives Laser Power & Infra an entry point into extra-high-voltage underground transmission work, adding a new segment to its EPC activities.
The company’s chairman and managing director, Deepak Goel, said the significance of the order extends beyond its Rs.44 crore value because of the technical requirements associated with 220 kV underground transmission.
Goel also pointed to increasing right-of-way constraints, infrastructure crossings and limitations around prolonged shutdowns in densely developed urban areas as factors that could increase the relevance of underground cable systems. These comments represent the company’s view of the market outlook.
According to Laser Power & Infra, successful execution of the project would establish a 220 kV underground transmission credential for the company and support its expansion into specialised EPC segments.
Laser Power & Infra said it has more than three decades of experience in manufacturing cables, conductors and allied products, while also executing EPC projects across power transmission, distribution, renewable energy and infrastructure. Its operations serve utilities, EPC contractors and industrial customers in India and international markets.
