NGT Cancels Green Nod To Godrej Project In Bengaluru

New Delhi: Godrej Properties Ltd may not be able to go ahead with its housing project near Kaikondrahalli Lake in Bengaluru as the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has cancelled the environmental clearance given to the project.

The environmental clearance was given by Karnataka State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA). The NGT cancelled the clearance given to Godrej Reflections (which comprises phase-1 of the project) and Godrej Lake Gardens (which comprises phase-2 of the project).

There were several objections raised by the locals who said that the project was abetting the Kaikondrahalli Lake on one side which is a violation of the environment rules. There are violations of the municipal corporation norms and buffer zone regulations as well, they said.

A lot of other structures around the lake that have also violated the 30-metre buffer of “no development” zone around lakes and other water bodies.
