SECL’s CSR Project Brings Life-Saving Heart Surgeries to Tribal Regions of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh

South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a Coal India subsidiary, has reached a notable milestone through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) project, “SECL Ki Dhadkan.” The program, which provides free cardiac care for children with congenital heart disease (CHD), has successfully completed 20 life-saving surgeries, benefiting underprivileged families within SECL’s operational territories in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. This latest achievement underscores SECL’s commitment to addressing healthcare disparities and ensuring access to essential medical interventions in communities that lack specialized medical facilities.

The initiative serves economically disadvantaged families across several tribal and rural districts, where resources are limited, and financial challenges often prevent access to specialized healthcare. Among the targeted areas are Raigarh, Korba, Bilaspur, and Sarguja in Chhattisgarh, and Anuppur, Shahdol, and Umaria in Madhya Pradesh, areas where SECL operates its coalfields.

SECL’s partnership with the Shri Satya Sai Health & Education Trust has been pivotal in executing this project. All surgeries were conducted at the Shri Satya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital in Raipur, known for its focus on pediatric cardiac care. This collaboration is a part of Coal India’s broader “Nanha Sa Dil” CSR initiative, emphasizing early diagnosis, screening, and treatment of congenital heart conditions to improve health outcomes for children in SECL’s project-affected regions.

To commemorate the discharge of these young patients, SECL held a celebratory event, the “Gift of Life” program, on October 25, 2024. During this gathering, children who had undergone surgeries received tokens of encouragement, symbolizing SECL’s dedication to a healthy future for the next generation in its operational communities.

This achievement reaffirms SECL’s focus on creating sustainable impact through strategic CSR activities, highlighting its role not only as a coal producer but as a socially responsible entity supporting community welfare. Through the SECL Ki Dhadkan initiative, SECL addresses an acute need in India’s rural healthcare system, contributing to the broader mission of inclusive and sustainable development in remote areas.
