New Delhi: Realty player Unitech Ltd has been asked by National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) to refund Rs 1 crore to two of its customers for failing to give possession of a flat even after a delay of six years, according to news reports.
The consumer court ordered Unitech Ltd to refund Rs1,06,57,663 to Swaroop Nandakumar and D Rameshbabu in three months for delay in delivering an apartment in ‘The Exquisite’ Nirvana Country 2 project by the realty firm. The project was to be developed in Gurugram.
The company has been ordered to pay a penalty of interest at 10 percent per annum on money deposited by the two home buyers.
The two home buyers had bought an apartment in 2010 and as per the agreement between the company and the home buyers, the property was to be deliver in 3 years. But the company did not hand over the possession of the flats even after the expiry of the three years period, the two buyers said in their complaint.
The court also ordered the realty form to pay litigation fees of Rs 25,000 to the customers.
